The Convento de Cabanas: A Timeless Sanctuary Between History and Nature

The origins of the Convento de Cabanas date back to the 11th century. Transformed in the 18th century by the Benedictines, this historic site now embodies a rare authenticity, deeply rooted in Portugal’s rich heritage.

Nestled at the foot of a wild mountain, just one kilometer from the unspoiled Atlantic beaches, this timeless estate harmoniously combines remarkable architecture with an exceptional natural setting.

A Refuge of Elegance and Serenity

The spacious suites of the convent and cottage have been carefully restored, incorporating touches of luxury and modern comfort. Every detail has been designed to create a peaceful and welcoming atmosphere, where history and the art of living blend seamlessly.

A preserved architectural heritage

Behind its centuries-old walls, the Convento de Cabanas unveils a world imbued with elegance and spirituality. Its cloister, a true haven of peace, invites contemplation through its interplay of light and shadow.

Beside it, the perfectly preserved church stands as a testament to centuries of devotion and faith.

The recent restoration, led by architect Fernando Cerqueira Barros, was honored with a special mention at the 2024 Rothier European Architecture Prize. Every intervention pays tribute to the past while offering the comfort of the present.

Reconnect with Mother Nature

The convent flourishes at the heart of a lush seven-hectare estate, where a crystal-clear river winds through meadows and woodlands. Wander through the romantic rose garden, stroll along the paths of the vegetable garden, or pick ripe fruit from the orchard… Here, nature is an invitation to contemplation and renewal.
